Aji Alese is becoming a quiet leader for West Ham

According to reports from The Athletic, Aji Alese is quickly becoming a “quiet leader” at the West Ham academy.

The youngster is one of the highly-rated talents in the club’s youth set-up, and he is progressing at a terrific rate.

David Moyes has been tracking his progress, and used him in the Europa League clash against Dinamo Zagreb.

Bright talent

The 20-year-old made his first-team debut in the EFL Cup win against Hull City last year.

Alese has been around the first-team set-up for a while. He travelled with the senior group to St Andrew’s for pre-season training, where he played against Dundee United and Northampton Town.

Roshane Thomas claims that Moyes is likely to use him more in the coming weeks as the youngster could be entrusted to fill in for Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna, both are currently out injured.

While Declan Rice can play in centre-back, Moyes doesn’t want to limit his influence. Instead, he is happy to give the youngster more chances in the senior set-up.

His confidence is sky-high at the moment. Recently, he scored a spectacular goal by carrying the ball 70 yards out and beating four players in the process before hitting the target.

The Athletic journalist has claimed that he is growing as a leader in the team, but he is someone who wants to lead by example. He loves to do the talking on the pitch, a similar quality found in Rice.

West Ham do need to sign a centre-back, but it will be exciting to watch the youngster getting more minutes on the pitch as well.
