Agbonlahor offers Julen Lopetegui sack verdict after what’s happened at West Ham
Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Julen Lopetegui to succeed at West Ham United as he has now started to turn things around.
Due to his failure to truly put his stamp on his Hammers side since his summer arrival, there has been plenty of speculation surrounding the Spaniard’s future at the club.
Despite an improvement in form of late, as they are unbeaten in four games, many remain unconvinced by the 58-year-old with performances still not up to the desired standard of supporters.
However, Agbonlahor believes he has the ability to progress with the East London side.
He said live on talkSPORT [27 December, 6:54pm]: “You have to give him time.
“I know he was under pressure, so close to getting the sack. But so many players have come in and gone out.
“Give the manager time and look, he’s turning it around now. They’re one point ahead of Manchester United, same points as Spurs.”
Julen Lopetegui has a lot of people to prove wrong at West Ham
It’s hard to make a judgement on Lopetegui at West Ham this season because it is clear he has struggled to adapt to life at the London Stadium, and the level of performance from the Hammers has not been good enough a lot of the time.
Beating Southampton 1-0 was a case of getting the job done in a game in which the Irons struggled to offer anything for a large part.

That being said, West Ham are currently six points away from the top six, closer than they are to the relegation zone.
As Agbonlahor points out, they are around teams like Manchester United and Tottenham in the table, which perhaps puts things in perspective.
It feels as though the boss is still walking a fine line at the London Stadium, but if the form continues to improve, you can’t help but feel like the boss deserves some time to really be able to make his mark on the team.
In other West Ham news, a summer signing could be showing to be one of the best additions in years after his performance against Southampton.
