Agbonlahor insists Ezri Konsa shouldn’t have been sent off v West Ham
West Ham United ran riot at Villa Park on Sunday, handing 10-man Aston Villa a 4-1 drubbing to consolidate their fourth position in the table.
Referee Chris Kavanagh’s decision to send off Ezri Konsa after the centre-back brought down Jarrod Bowen has sparked debate, and Gabriel Agbonlahor has weighed in with his opinion.
The man in the middle reckoned the Villa ace denied West Ham a goalscoring opportunity, but the former striker is not having it, insisting Konsa should have remained on the pitch.
Agbonlahor posted on his personal Instagram account: “Team showed a lot of fight and was never a red card!
“Villa fans, stick with Dean Smith and the players, they will put this right.”
Former West Ham star Anton Ferdinand was in the comments section, replying with an emoji that passed a lot of message.
Die is cast
Villa were always going to hold on to the sending off as an excuse for the defeat, but there is nothing that can be done about it now, and they never looked like the better side at any point in the game.
West Ham headed into the break leading 2-1, and they would most likely have won at full-time had the hosts ended the game with 11 players.
VAR made a decision, and the ref made his call, so there should not be any complaints.
Dean Smith’s side were lucky to have been shown just a red card as Kortney Hause should have been sent off too after smashing his forearm into Pablo Fornals’ face.
The Villa centre-back was very lucky to escape being sent off as another ref would not have hesitated to show him his marching orders.
West Ham were clearly the better side, and they will be focusing on finishing in the top-four as Villa continue to debate Kavanagh’s decision.
