AC Milan ready to make first move for West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca

AC Milan are willing to make the “first move” for West Ham ace Gianluca Scamacca this summer, according to Calciomercato.

The publication noted that the Serie A giants will talk to the Hammers about the current situation regarding the striker.

Scamacca only joined the East London club last summer, scoring eight goals from 27 matches in his debut season in England.

“Milan, which has been monitoring the pitch for some time, is willing to make a first move: in fact, during the week, the Rossoneri will try to talk to the Hammers about the situation regarding the first striker: the attempt is to lay the foundations for a negotiation,” according to Calciomercato.

“However, the Rossoneri are well aware that, at least for now, West Ham are not willing to let the ex-Sassuolo leave on loan after paying out a good €36million (£31million) just a year ago.”

Highly sought-after

Despite Scamacca’s clear struggles in England, the Italian international is seemingly highly sought-after, with a handful of clubs still believing in his ability.

The striker hit 16 goals in 41 matches for Sassuolo, with that form earning him a move to West Ham in the first place, but he simply couldn’t replicate that in claret and blue.

The 24-year-old has 24 Serie A goals to his name from 65 appearances, proving he can cut it in the Italian top flight, which is perhaps why AC Milan are seemingly interested in bringing him back to his home country.

Injuries didn’t help Scamacca in his debut season at the club, but perhaps he isn’t quite made for the division, or for the style that manager David Moyes wants to play.

West Ham have had countless strikers come in and struggle over the years, but the Italian international really wasn’t expected to be included in this list.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have made an approach to sign a new striker whose 16-goal loan has just come to an end.
