‘Absolutely phenomenal’ – Marlon Harewood gushes over West Ham ace Declan Rice

Former West Ham striker Marlon Harewood says Declan Rice has been ‘absolutely phenomenal’ this season, and named three other stars who have impressed him.

The Hammers midfielder won the award of London’s Player of the Season during the week at the London Football Awards, receiving recognition for his brilliant performances.

With West Ham chasing a top four position and competing in the Europa League, Harewood told The Mirror believes that the England man has been a ‘different level’ but also feels there are others who deserve some credit within the squad.

“They have all been performing,” the Sky Sports pundit said.

“You can talk about Jarrod Bowen, on the brink of an England call-up, Declan Rice, Michail Antonio, the whole back four – Kurt Zouma and Craig Dawson have been fantastic. They have all been unbelievable.

“We have to speak about Declan because he has been a different level of late, he has been quality this year.

“So I would say he has been the standout this season. I don’t think he has missed a game, 90 minutes every week. He has been absolutely phenomenal.”

Levels to this

West Ham have been excellent and arguably been punching above their weight this season as they chase a historic campaign.

Rice has been a huge reason for that, with his performances earning him a valuation of over £100m amid interest from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Man City [Telgraph].

But it’s nice of Harewood to notice that some other great performers this season have gone under the radar because of the level of performance of Rice and to give them credit too.

Dawson and Zouma have been one of the better centre-back pairings in the Premier League so far this season and despite injuries they have managed to sit in fifth place for much of the year.

If they can maintain those levels through until the end of the year, there is no reason why they can’t push the top four race all the way to the end while also making a serious run for the Europa League trophy.
