Aaron Wan-Bissaka England call-up mooted after recent West Ham United developments
Stan Collymoore has mooted the possibility of an England call-up for Aaron Wan-Bissaka following his transfer to West Ham United.
The 26-year-old has impressed in claret and blue since making the switch from Manchester United this summer, playing a particularly crucial role from the bench in the Irons’ 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.
Although the Englishman has only made one Premier League start so far this season, talkSPORT pundit Collymoore has floated the idea that both he and Fulham midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe could earn an international call-up.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (13 September, 14:41) he said: “I don’t know what you guys think but when you’re looking at England and the rebirth of players having taken a little bit of a step down to come back up.
“Emile Smith-Rowe for Fulham and Aaron Wan-Bissaka for West Ham United. If you’re watching them this season, if you’re watching them this weekend it will be interesting to see how they do.
“Smith-Rowe has started well, glowing reports of Wan-Bissaka. It’s nice to see players who don’t quite do it at a club or are surplus to requirements, going elsewhere, taking the decision to go elsewhere and say my career might be on fire here.
“For Emile Smith-Rowe and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, I hope they have a great season. The signs are good very early on.”
Has West Ham star Aaron Wan-Bissaka ever played for England?
Wan-Bissaka is incredibly unfortunate that he has broken through during an era where England just happened to have some of the best right-backs to ever play the game competing for a starting role.
Players like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James have struggled to make an impact on the international stage because of the form of Kyle Walker and the competition is only growing season after season.
However, Lee Carsley has already shown in his brief tenure in charge of the Three Lions that he is ready and willing to do things differently. If Wan-Bissaka continues to shine in the Premier League, a maiden call-up cannot be ruled out.
The 26-year-old’s ability to also play on the left of defence, as demonstrated in the Carabao Cup win against Bournemouth is just another string to his bow, especially given the Hammers and the Three Lions’ lack of depth at left-back.
Hopefully, the former Manchester United man will force his way into Julen Lopetegui’s side consistently, and then win an international call-up.
