‘A different challenge’ – West Ham defender details how Hammers will approach next PL games

West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek has said that his side face ‘a different challenge’ as they look to build on their recent good performances in the Premier league.

The Hammers’ four-game unbeaten streak came to an end at Anfield on Saturday as Soucek’s side lost 2-1 to Liverpool.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, the Czech said that the Hammers need to recreate their good performances against the top six when they take on the smaller teams in the Premier League.

He said “I wanted more points (this season), but when we lost the first two games and we looked to our schedule we knew it was difficult. But from Arsenal, we got better and better, and now we’ll work hard towards the next game and we want to win against Fulham.

“It will be a different challenge from the last four games for us now. We’ve been playing teams from the top six recently and now we want to keep more of the ball and create more chances”.

The Hammers have managed to pick up more points than most fans will have expected when they first saw their side’s early season fixtures.

After losing their first game of the season to Newcastle it looked as if West Ham could easily be bottom of the premier league after the first seven or eight games as matches against several of last season’s top six approached.

But draws against Manchester City and Tottenham and a win against Leicester have given David Moyes’ side a solid platform to build on as they face some less challenging fixtures in the near future.

The Hammers face Fulham and Sheffield United in their next two league outings and both sides are yet to win this season. West Ham should be picking up six points from these games against teams who look like they will be in a relegation battle this season. Hopefully, two wins will leave the Hammers well clear of the bottom three.
