£4.7m update emerges on West Ham United stadium amid long-term targets

West Ham stadium owners, The London Legacy Development Corporation, secured £4.7million from the Mayor’s Green Finance Fund, per Six Foot Two.

The news outlet reported on 28 October that this was to pay for the solar membrane project.

It’s understood that the huge solar membrane will sit on the roof of the London Stadium and this is to achieve their long-term carbon emission goals.

Good move

These membranes will harness clean, renewable energy from the sun and thus reduce the stadium’s carbon footprint and reliance on fossil fuels.

With the world moving to greener alternatives, every club might be asked to do this in the coming years so it’s good to see the ones in charge of the London Stadium being proactive.

They can also integrated into the stadium’s architectural design, providing shade and shelter for spectators so it remains to be seen whether or not a new look will be on the cards.

They can also help in regulating the temperature inside the stadium, making it more comfortable during hot summer games and this could be done ahead of potentially hosting major events in the future.

This undoubtedly sends a clear message to a global audience about the importance of sustainability and green technology.

How green it actually is will be something that time tells but as of now, it should be viewed as a net good.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are now frustrated with a £10m player as a behind-the-scenes revelation has emerged from the London Stadium.
