WHZ Moment of the Match: West Ham & Bowen hard done by officials in Chelsea loss

West Ham United fell to a 3-0 defeat against Chelsea on Monday evening in the Premier League.

After seeing an early goal disallowed for offside, terrible marking allowed Thiago Silva to capitalise and give the home side the lead.

The Irons missed plenty of chances in the second half, but Tammy Abraham made them pay with two goals in as many minutes towards the end.

Our ‘Moment of the Match’ came just before the half-time whistle at Stamford Bridge.

Jarrod Bowen made his way into the box and finished smartly, only for the referee to blow up for a foul in the build-up.

Initially, there were no complaints, but the replays highlighted that there was little to no contact between Bowen and Silva, and it definitely warranted a referral to the VAR.

It didn’t get reviewed, only because the officials had already blown for the foul before the ball was put into the net, and looking back it was a shocking decision.

Sky Sports’ commentary suggested there was a push in the back, but there wasn’t – the only hint on the replays was that there may have been the tiniest amount of contact between the two players’ feet.

It wasn’t enough to go down, and the Irons can count themselves massively unlucky.

This isn’t the first time this has happened this season.

VAR has helped the Irons once against Aston Villa, but add this to the contentious and clear errors against Manchester United, and they can feel aggrieved.

Moyes and his players didn’t make too much of this when it happened, but when they see the replays after the game, they may have more to say about it.
