West Ham vs Chelsea injury latest: Seven players ‘set to miss out’ in early team news

West Ham will be looking to get back to winning ways against Chelsea on Friday.

Graham Potter‘s side fell to a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Sunderland on the opening weekend of the Premier League.

Jarrod Bowen called on his teammates to bounce back in the clash with their London rivals, after the dismal result at the Stadium of Light.

Mads Hermansen and Malick El Hadji Diouf made their debuts, and the new additions need to adapt quickly to life in East London.

Seven potentially out for West Ham vs Chelsea

The London Stadium clash on Friday, 22 August, will be missing some key men for both sides as West Ham sack pressure mounts on Potter.

The Hammers will be missing Crysencio Summerville, who is expected to be out until September with a hamstring issue, and George Earthy is also a doubt.

Meanwhile, for the Blues, Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Omari Kellyman and Romeo Lavia are ruled out of the contest.

Tosin Adarabioyo is also a doubt for the visitors after missing the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

West Ham need to win against Chelsea

The Irons need to secure victory against Enzo Maresca’s side; otherwise, the pressure on Potter will only increase.

Their fixtures are not any easier after they face the FIFA Club World Cup champions, with Nottingham Forest and Tottenham to come.

Victory against Chelsea could provide vital momentum for the ex-Brighton manager to turn things around in E20 and completely change the perceptions around their current situation.

At the very least, they need an impressive performance, if they cannot win on Friday evening, as the doubters will only increase if they put in a similar showing to the opening day.

It is clear that they need new signings, but ultimately, results will define how Potter is viewed, and they need to start changing in a positive way.

If they do not, it could be curtains for the 50-year-old, and it could come sooner than expected.
