West Ham v Brentford: Graham Potter makes huge error

Graham Potter has named his playing eleven as West Ham look to take the three points against Brentford on Saturday.

Despite Brentford’s attacking prowess, evidenced by Bryan Mbeumo’s goals this season and their ability to score in their Premier League encounters against the Hammers, the hosts have shown improvement under Potter.

His record against Brentford is impressive, with clean sheets in all three previous Premier League meetings, suggesting he knows how to neutralise their threats.

Graham Potter makes a glaring error in his West Ham lineup

In his lineup, Potter has opted to go with Konstantinos Mavropanos instead of Jean-Clair Todibo – a decision that could cost him.

The French centre-back did not get along with Julen Lopetegui but he’s certainly much better defensively and should be starting.

Mavropanos, on the other hand, appears like he’s got an error in him and this could come back to haunt the Hammers manager.

It remains to be seen how long Potter shows his faith in the Greek defender as he’s clearly not good enough to start week in and week out if the club are serious about finishing in the top half of the Premier League.

Brentford will look to make a quick start at the London Stadium

Brentford’s fast starts are a concern, but Potter’s focus on defensive organisation can counter this if he ensures his team remains compact early on.

West Ham’s recent performances, such as their spirited display against Chelsea, indicate a growing cohesion and with a 12-day break to refine tactics, they are primed for a strong showing.

The London Stadium’s atmosphere, where 42 goals have been scored this season, will further energise the Hammers, especially with Jarrod Bowen, one goal shy of 50 Premier League strikes, leading the attack.

Brentford’s inconsistency, winning only two of their last nine games, and their vulnerability away from home tilt the odds in West Ham’s favour.

If Potter’s side can stifle the Bees’ early momentum and harness the crowd’s energy, the Hammers’ superior form and home advantage should secure a victory.
