West Ham United v Fulham: Sky Sports pundit stunned by ‘unbelievable’ moment

Jobi McAnuff was in disbelief as West Ham scored twice in two minutes despite a slow start against Fulham on Tuesday.

Marco Silva’s side missed multiple chances to take the lead at the London Stadium on 14 January, with Carlos Soler finally hitting the back of the net on the hour mark, pouncing on a mistake from Andreas Pereira.

Just moments after the game restarted, Tomas Soucek buried a strike past Bernd Leno, providing Graham Potter’s side with a comfortable two-goal lead in his first home game as manager.

Speaking live via Sky Sports News [14 January, 8:04pm], McAnuff: “Unbelievable turnaround. You will never see a more one-sided start by one team, to then be 2-0 down. I said Marco Silva would be disappointed his team didn’t take their opportunities.

“They’ve really been made to pay, with the opener from Carlos Soler. It’s overplaying by Fulham. Leno rolls one out into Pereira, who plays a blind pass across the 18-yard box and it’s not an easy finish.

“Soler comes onto it, almost like Bruno Fernandes’ finish the other day. It’s bouncing up, he has to control it, and wrap it into the top corner.”

West Ham United battle against Fulham pressure to surprise at London Stadium

With the number of chances that the Cottagers created in the first half, this team under Julen Lopetegui likely would have headed into the break behind by more than one goal.

However, under the new reign of Potter, the players look to be far more fine-tuned, battling for one another and fighting in the face of adversity.

The Hammers had Jarrod Bowen, Niclas Fullkrug, Jean-Clair Todibo, Michail Antonio and now Crysencio Summerville due to injuries, but that did not stop Potter’s side from racing ahead.

Eyebrows were raised with a front line of Soler, Soucek, Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta, but those concerns were put to bed after 31 minutes as the opening goal was fired home.

With so much outrage during Lopetegui’s reign in East London, a new era looks to have begun under the new manager, but supporters will not be getting too far ahead of themselves after one good result.

In other West Ham news, a European club is only considering the full sale of their award-winning striker in a new transfer update.
