West Ham United: Andy Gray shares ‘don’t bother’ verdict after draw v Burnley at London Stadium

Andy Gray joked there was no point Alphonse Areola even attempting to keep out David Fofana’s strike in the draw between West Ham and Burnley.

Fofana scored a sensational long-range goal to give Burnley the lead in Sunday’s (10 March) Premier League clash at London Stadium.

Dinos Mavropanos’ own goal gave the Clarets a two-goal advantage before the break, but Lucas Paqueta and Danny Ings rescued a 2-2 draw.

Reacting to Fofana’s belter live on beIN SPORTS [10 March, 2:13pm], a visibly amazed Gray said: “Sometimes I say ‘don’t bother diving, keeper, there’s no point’.

“And there was no point in the goalkeeper diving here when Fofana hit that.”

David Fofana goal stuns West Ham

Sometimes you just have to appreciate a world-class goal when you see one, which is very much what this Fofana strike was.

Areola tried his best to keep it out but the quality of the finish simply proved too much as Burnley took a shock lead in East London.

While the West Ham keeper had little chance of getting a hand to the ball, the less said about West Ham’s non-existent midfield the better.

Fofana got the luck of a bounce but waltzed past a few players as though they were not there before unleashing a rocket from well over 25 yards.

West Ham did well to recover a point in a game that saw some big calls go against them, but it is still ultimately two points dropped.

If it was not already the case, there is now huge pressure going into the return leg with Freiburg next week.
