West Ham United to make Julen Lopetegui sack call by Christmas after loss v Chelsea

Julen Lopetegui will be sacked by Christmas if West Ham United don’t improve following their defeat to Chelsea, according to Tom Rennie.

The Hammers’ winless start to the Premier League season at the London Stadium continued on Saturday (21 September) as Enzo Maresca’s side claimed all three points with a comfortable 3-0 win.

While talkSPORT broadcaster Rennie was quick to slam the player’s performance in the dismal defeat, he did admit Lopetegui could already be at risk of the sack as he tore into the Spaniard’s team selection and tactical setup.

Writing on X on Saturday (21 September) he said: “Lopetegui should take a lot of the blame here. The setup has been very bad.

“The tactics have been very bad. The defensive plan has been very bad. The players have barely broken into a sprint as well.

“Keep this up. Lopetegui won’t make Christmas.”

Will West Ham sack Julen Lopetegui after loss v Cheslea?

West Ham won’t want to make any rash decisions at the London Stadium having made the bold call to part ways with David Moyes last term, but the pressure is already on Lopetegui to show that he was the right appointment.

So far, the former Real Madrid boss has demonstrated very little to suggest that he is an upgrade on the Scotsman, despite being heavily backed in his first summer transfer window in charge in East London.

While it was always going to take some time for so many new signings to gel together on the field, Lopetegui’s current setup doesn’t appear to be conducive to getting the best out of the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Mohammed Kudus.

Something needs to change for the former Wolves manager to get the Hammers supporters onside.

The majority of the fanbase wanted to see Moyes go last term, but they may well regret that decision having seen what Lopetegui has mustered up so far this term.
