West Ham United: talkSPORT broadcaster rages amid Tomas Soucek controversy v Aston Villa

Tom Rennie has been left in a rage after West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek was denied a late winner in the Irons’ showdown with Aston Villa.

David Moyes’s side picked up a valuable point at the London Stadium on Sunday (17 March) as Michail Antonio’s first-half header was cancelled out by Nicolo Zaniolo’s strike in the closing stages of the second half.

Thre Irons thought they found a late winner as Soucek bundled in from close range, only for VAR to deem the midfielder had handled the ball much to talkSPORT broadcaster Rennie’s frustration as he claimed the officials “don’t have a clue”.

Writing on X on Sunday (17 March) he said: “That’s a goal! They don’t have a clue these guys.”

Should Tomas Soucek’s goal have counted for West Ham against Aston Villa?

The Hammers were very bright against Villa on Sunday and had they claimed all three points against Unai Emery’s team they would have been more than worthy of the result as they were at they had plenty of chances to win the game.

Whether or not Soucek’s goal should have counted is open to debate as the ball did appear to strike the Czech international’s arm, but it is impossible to suggest that he did deliberately handle the ball into the net.

However, the Irons would have been incredibly unhappy had that goal been given against them. While that doesn’t make it any more frustrating for supporters like Rennie, these are the sort of calls that tend to even themselves out over a season.

Hopefully, West Ham’s bit of luck in the Premier League will return following the March international break. Until then, supporters can just be relieved that the Irons have been brighter in possession in recent weeks under Moyes.
