West Ham United: Sue Smith raves about ‘brilliant’ Kurt Zouma live on Sky Sports

Sue Smith was stunned by Kurt Zouma’s header to draw West Ham level in the eventual 3-1 victory for David Moyes’ side at Goodison Park.

It was the captain who brought the Hammers level, having gone 1-0 down shortly after half-time, with a header which appeared to lift the performances of his teammates.

Two late goals sealed the 3-1 victory as the pressure is now beginning to ease on Moyes’ job, with his side having taken all six points from their last two games.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News [2 March, 16:23], Smith gushed: “It’s an equaliser for West Ham, it’s Kurt Zouma. Ward-Prowse with a brilliant delivery, but this is such a good header from Zouma.

“He starts on the goal line and just comes out to the six-yard box, gets up above a couple of defenders and just guides it into that far corner. Brilliant header from him.”

It was a true captain’s contribution from Zouma to get his side back into the game, raising the levels of those around him and getting on the score sheet when it appeared they may struggle to do so after a frustrating first half.

After falling a goal behind, it appeared it may be a case of the same old story for Moyes’ team, but the players rallied to mount a comeback inspired by their captain’s equalising goal.

Questions have been asked about the future of Zouma and whether he may leave the club at the end of the season after some recent criticism, but scoring big goals at key times like that will do nothing to hurt his cause for remaining at the London Stadium.

The 95th-minute goal from Thomas Soucek to make it 3-1 may have flattered the visitors slightly, but a win is a win regardless of how it comes, and the manager will be grateful to have taken all three points away from Goodison Park.
