West Ham United ratings v Manchester United – Jarrod Bowen shines, Carlos Soler flops
West Ham secured a thrilling 2-1 win against Manchester United at the London Stadium in the Premier League on 27 October.
Crysencio Summerville opened the scoring for the hosts as he came off the bench to grab the headlines.
Minutes later, Casemiro headed the ball into the back of the net to level things up for the visitors before Jarrod Bowen’s penalty gave the hosts the lead again.
Here are our player ratings for the game:
Lukasz Fabiaski – 6
Found himself in no man’s land when Diogo Dalot was clean through on goal and will consider himself fortunate that the Portugal international fluffed his lines.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6
Played like he had a point to prove and locked down the Manchester United attackers perfectly. He gave them no room whatsoever to manoeuvre their way out. While he did struggle going forward, it was a solid defensive performance from the right-back.
Konstantinos Mavropanos – 3
The centre-back struggled to cope with the pace of the game and appeared to be ever so close to being sent off. His decision making was poor and Lopetegui surely felt that he was a risk and rightly took him off at the break.
Max Kilman – 7
Was rock solid at the back and among the club’s best players on the day. Bullied Amad Diallo right after he came on and failed to let anything go past him. Even for Casemiro’s goal, it was hard to attribute any blame on him.
Emerson – 6
Offered a constant attacking threat and did put a few deliveries into the box that tested the opposition’s defence. However, defensively he did make a few errors that put his team in harm’s way and he’s got to improve on that side of his game.
Edson Alvarez – 7
Kept things tidy in the middle of the park and was accurate with his passing all game. He not only shielded the backline but also dictated the tempo in what was an impressive midfield performance from him.
Guido Rodriguez – 4
His shocking error in the first half nearly handed the initiative to the visitors. Had Alejandro Garnacho been more clinical, West Ham would’ve been chasing it all game and thankfully for the hosts, he hit the crossbar.
Jarrod Bowen – 8
While he would not get the assist for the Summerville goal, he certainly did a lot right in order to get the ball to the Dutchman. Was a constant menace down the right for the Hammers and each time he had the ball, the Manchester United defenders began to retreat. He then showed no nerves and calmly slotted the ball home from the penalty spot.
Lucas Paqueta – 5
Was taken off at the break as he failed to be influential in the final third. Usually so good with his incisive passing, it was a rare off day for the Brazilian.
Carlos Soler – 3
Played just 45 minutes and was arguably the worst player on the pitch. According to Sofascore, he lost possession on five occasions and lost 100 per cent of his attempted ground duels. He could also complete 10 passes with a dismal accuracy of 77 per cent. Getting Summerville on for him absolutely changed the game.

Michail Antonio – 7
Did not get a goal or an assist but his hold-up play was impeccable and he was a constant physical threat – making things extremely difficult for the Manchester United defenders. He also chased down lost causes and gave the opponents very little breathing room.
Subs
Jean-Clair Todibo – 5
Crysencio Summerville – 7
Tomas Soucek – 4
Danny Ings – 5
Aaron Cresswell – N/A
