West Ham United player ratings v Fulham: Konstantinos Mavropanos flops with 2/10 in loss

West Ham United were unable to bounce back from their defeat to Bayer Leverkusen as they were well beaten by Fulham in the Premier League.

David Moyes’ side missed the chance to boost their hopes of European football next season as they lost 2-0 to Marco Silva’s side at the London Stadium on Sunday (14 April) thanks to a brace from Andreas Pereira.

The defeat leaves the Hammers eighth in the Premier League, 12 points adrift of fifth-placed Tottenham in the race for European football and increases the growing pressure on Moyes in the Irons dugout.

West Ham Zone have rated the players out of 10;

Lukasz Fabianski – 7

After an impressive showing between the posts against Leverkusen, the Polish international continued with Alphonse Areola still sidelined. Despite conceding early, the 38-year-old made some excellent first-half saves and kept it simple with the ball at his feet. Despite his age, he is a more than able backup to the Frenchman.

Vladimir Coufal – 5

The Czech full-back appeared to be on his heels for the opening goal and while he could have done little to help defensively, Moyes would have expected more from an experienced defender. Made up for that as he repeatedly got forward in possession, it’s just a shame that he couldn’t complete a single cross or hit the target with his shots.

Konstantinos Mavropanos – 2

What was the Greek international doing for the away side’s opener? Mavropanos simply had to do more to stop that goal and has been slammed by supporters and pundits for his huge error. Put his side on the backfoot and did little else in the game to help recover the awful display. Hopefully, his injury isn’t too severe as Moyes is short of defensive options.

Nayef Aguerd struggles for West Ham United v Fulham amid new transfer links

Nayef Aguerd – 4

The defender returned to the starting XI for the first time since March and while most of the blame lays at Mavropanos’ door for Fulham’s opener, Aguerd also failed to track his runner with a slow covering run. Far too slow to close down Alex Iwobi for the second goal. With the speculation surrounding his future in the summer, you have to wonder if the 28-year-old has already checked out of East London.

Emerson – 6

Emerson has been one of the Hammers’ most consistent performers so far this season and while he was unremarkable against the Cottagers, he did get most things right. The Italian won a majority of his tackles and duels. Created a chance or two when he ventured forward but didn’t manage to have a major impact.

Edson Alvarez – 5

Back in the squad having missed the midweek Europa League clash with Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen. Didn’t manage to stamp his authority on proceedings out of possession as he lost a majority of his tackles and duels. Potentially the best thing about his performance was the fact he didn’t manage to pick up his regular booking.

James Ward-Prowse – 5

The England international missed a massive chance in the first and that ultimately proved costly for the Hammers. Carried his usual threat from set-pieces and created a couple of good chances in the final third, but didn’t do enough before he was hooked by Moyes and replaced with Tomas Soucek.

Mohammed Kudus – 7

As he so often is Kudus was the livewire on the wing for the Hammers. Completed plenty of dribbles as he impressed with the ball at his feet and carried a consistent threat going forward but wasn’t able to put the finishing touch in the final third. The 23-year-old needs some help going forward and you have to wonder if a different manager would manage to get more out of him.

Lucas Paqueta – 6

There has been plenty of debate around the Brazilian’s future but he managed to put that to one side as he desperately tried to help West Ham find a way back into the game at the London Stadium. Like so many of his teammates, was guilty of missing a good chance but kept trying to drive his side forward. Not his best performance but one of the better players.

Danny Ings – 5

A surprise inclusion in the starting XI alongside Antonio. The 31-year-old last started a Premier League back in January and showed a few signs of rust as he spurned several reasonable chances to get back on the scoresheet. Given his poor form so far this term you have to wonder why he continues to get chances from the off.

West Ham United striker Danny Ings
Danny Ings could be leaving West Ham United.

Michail Antonio – 4

The Jamaican international missed an excellent chance in the opening exchanges as he skied over from close range after three minutes. Antonio didn’t see loads of the ball but struggled to impact proceedings when he did get on the ball. West Ham need a clinical number nine this summer if they want to progress.

Substitutes

Kurt Zouma – 6

Ben Johnson – 5

Tomas Soucek – 5

George Earthy – 6

A bright Premier League debut until a major collision at the London Stadium. Hopefully, the teenager will be back fit and available soon as he impressed in his short cameo.

Maxwel Cornet – N/A
