West Ham United ratings v Liverpool: 5/10 Angelo Ogbonna struggles again, MOTM gets 8/10
West Ham United battled to a 2-2 draw in Saturday’s (27 April) Premier League clash with Liverpool at London Stadium.
Jarrod Bowen headed the Irons into the lead at the end of a flat and uneventful first half at London Stadium.
Andy Robertson levelled early in the second period before an own goal – officially credited to Alphonse Areola – gave Liverpool the lead, but Michail Antonio rescued United a point.

Angelo Ogbonna struggles for West Ham
Alphonse Areola – 6.5
Could have done much more to keep out Liverpool’s opener and was then credited – unfortunately – with the own goal. However, produced a number of very good saves at 2-1 and that proved crucial.
Vladimir Coufal – 6
Liverpool got in behind down his side too often and he failed to cut out a couple of crosses aimed his way, yet the four aerial duels he won was a West Ham high. Went close with a shot that was well saved at the other end.
Kurt Zouma – 6
Conceded twice but also defended numerous other Liverpool attacks very well, while also registering the best pass-completion rate among United players. It may well be that Zouma’s time at London Stadium is coming to an end, but showed he can still do a job.
Angelo Ogbonna – 5
May not have been credited with the own goal but was his doing. Easy to say he was unfortunate but he ultimately put the ball into his own net. To give him credit, he led the way for tackles (five) as West Ham held off the Liverpool onslaught.
Emerson – 6
Almost scored a world-class goal, only for Alisson to keep it out. Mixed attacking with defending, but can perhaps be a little better when in possession of the ball.
Tomas Soucek – 7
Brilliantly intercepted a Liverpool pass to create a chance for Bowen and did a very good job at frustrating the visitors’ talented attackers for large parts. Only blemish was the own goal – could he have done more to stop it on the line?
Jarrod Bowen shines for West Ham
Edson Alvarez – 7.5
Question mark over his defending for Liverpool’s opener – he surely could have closed down Luis Diaz quicker in the build-up – but was not afraid to get stuck in. Nobody could better his three interceptions as he broke up play and contributed to the point.
Jarrod Bowen – 8
Was West Ham’s liveliest player in the first half and did well to find the net through a header, having had a couple of attempts saved. Three shots on target in total as he proved a real thorn in Liverpool’s side.
Lucas Paqueta – 7
Another who, while not at his free-flowing best, still stuck to the task and helped earn United an unlikely point. Was perhaps fortunate to only be shown a yellow card for a nasty challenge on Alexis Mac Callister.

Mohammed Kudus – 7.5
Struggled to get into the game prior to assisting Bowen’s opening goal. Was by no means his best afternoon in a Wets Ham shirt, but his six dribbles was double that of any team-mate as he refused to give up.
Michail Antonio – 7.5
Offered so very little for pretty much an hour, but he took his opportunity when it arrived in the second half. A lot of the work he does goes unnoticed, yet he ultimately made a difference with his effort.
