West Ham United: Joe Cole fumes at fans as David Moyes exit mooted at London Stadium

Joe Cole has fumed at West Ham fans after questions have emerged again surrounding David Moyes’ future at the London Stadium after the 4-3 defeat against Newcastle.

Moyes has been subject to plenty of pressure this season despite some positive results both domestically and in the Europa League, with the questions refusing to disappear.

As things stand, the manager’s contract is set to expire in the summer, but a decision will be made between the club and the boss closer to the end of the season.

Speaking live ahead of the game on TNT Sports [30 March, 12:00] Cole gushed: “He probably gets annoyed with what people say – he’s not just a defensive manager, but he’s very good at organising his teams defensively.

“I wouldn’t compare him as an attacking manager to Ange Postecoglou, but he wins games.

“He’s a fantastic manager, I think he’s been underestimated by West Ham fans, I can’t fathom for the life of me why there is any kind of dissent anywhere across any of the fanbase in terms of what he’s done.

“I think he’s done a tremendous job.”

Will David Moyes leave West Ham this summer?

Pressure on the manager is likely to ramp up again in the wake of a dramatic 4-3 defeat in which his team led 3-1 before a late collapse allowed the hosts to claw themselves back into the game and snatch a late winner through Harvey Barnes.

Moyes’ situation at the London Stadium has been a hot topic of discussion since the 6-0 defeat to Arsenal and the news that the board had delayed contract talks, although the rumours of his fate have died down slightly in recent weeks.

Cole’s comments come after Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth insisted that Moyes will make the final decision about whether he stays or leaves in the summer, as he suggested that a Europa League challenge could push him to stay [Give Me Sport, 20 March].

Darren Bent, meanwhile, tipped Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna to take over from Moyes should he decide to leave the London Stadium, with the Tractor Boys currently challenging for promotion from the Championship.

In other West Ham news, it has been suggested Moyes could strengthen his position.
