West Ham United: Gary Neville slams Brentford man Sergio Reguilon for Tomas Soucek incident
Gary Neville blasted Sergio Reguilon for an “absolutely ridiculous” challenge on Tomas Soucek in the 4-2 West Ham win over Brentford.
The Bees defender went through the back of the Irons midfielder on the flank early in the second half and was booked, with his “weird” and forceful reaction to referee Simon Hooper risking a second yellow.
Neville was bemused by the Tottenham loanees attitude for a foul that was “never” going to win the ball.
He said (9.11pm): “It’s almost like it’s a massive shock to Reguilon that when he goes through someone from behind that it’s a foul.
“He could never win the ball, it’s an absolutely ridiculous angle to challenge from, and his reaction is, well, weird.”

Reguilon had a miserable night as the Irons finally got a 2024 victory and lifted some of the pressure on manager David Moyes.
Hooper’s decision not to award him a penalty for a first-half coming together with Mohammed Kudus upset Thomas Frank and his players, and was apparently at the centre of an angry confrontation in the tunnel at half time.
He was also burnt by Kudus defensively as the Ghanian delighted Neville to put Jarrod Bowen’s hat-trick goal “on a plate” not long after the foul on Soucek.
Despite some defensive weakness still being displayed by West Ham it was largely a wonderful night at the London Stadium.

Bowen scored his first treble for the club, having fired the Hammers two up inside seven minutes, Lucas Paqueta made his long-awaited return, and Emerson scored a wonder-strike into the top corner.
In terms of platforms to build from it was potentially a great one for Moyes, and he certainly needs it right now.
