West Ham United: Garth Crooks blown away by Jarrod Bowen v Brentford, ‘flying’ verdict shared

West Ham star Jarrod Bowen has been named in Garth Crooks’ Team of the Week after the win against Brentford.

The winger netted his first senior hat-trick as the Hammers ran out 4-2 winners at the London Stadium on Monday (26 February).

Left-back Emerson also found the back of the net, with Neal Maupay and Yoane Wissa on target for the Bees.

“Two very well-taken goals by Bowen in the first 10 minutes of the 4-2 win against Brentford on Monday would have settled the nerves of the West Ham fans who have been very vocal recently about their team’s performances and the relevance of their manager David Moyes,” Crooks told BBC Sport (26 February).

“However, by the time Bowen got his first senior hat-trick, against a very slow starting Brentford, the Hammers were flying and their signature tune ‘I’m forever blowing bubbles’ was ringing around London Stadium.”

Even with Brentford really struggling for confidence ahead of their trip to East London, it threatened to be a very difficult match for the Hammers.

But the fears of the home fans were put to rest when Bowen fired home two goals inside the first seven minutes at the London Stadium.

Everton loanee Maupay reduced the deficit, but England star Bowen gave the hosts a two-goal cushion once more as he completed his hat-trick.

His teammate Emerson then scored the pick of the goals with a stunning long-range strike, although Wissa did make things somewhat nervy for the home side with his late effort.

But West Ham managed to see it through from there, much to the delight of manager David Moyes, who has been under pressure in the dugout lately given the club’s disastrous start to the year.
