West Ham United fans chant against David Moyes during 2-0 loss v Nottingham Forest
West Ham United fans sang songs against manager David Moyes during the club’s 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
The Hammers were beaten thanks to a Tayo Awoniyi first-half goal and late Callum Hudson-Odoi strike, meaning the Hammers are winless in their last seven games in all competitions with no goals in any of their last three.
Kalvin Phillips also saw red for two yellow cards in a matter of minutes, and minutes later the fans turned on the manager and began chanting for him to leave the club according to The Athletic journalist Elias Burke.
“Minutes after Kalvin Phillips was given his marching orders for a second yellow card, West Ham fans start singing ‘sacked in the morning’, directed at David Moyes,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (17 February).
David Moyes has to leave West Ham
It’s been a strange season at the London Stadium, because the team have done relatively well in the league and are in the knockout stages of the Europa League too.
But the football has been absolutely dire, the fans are uninspired and it’s clear that the board are not convinced about the manager’s future beyond this season too.
Once you lose the dressing room there is no coming back, but Moyes has gone one worse and lost the fans now and there is surely no way that the club can hand him a new contract as it stands.
It’s an easy situation for the club to navigate with Moyes out of contract in the summer, where they agree to part ways now and announce it so that the fans can get behind him and the team knowing something better is coming.
All the questions about his future are making it toxic and making it more difficult for people to be motivated, but it’s clear Moyes has to go now.
