West Ham United confirmed XI v Luton Town: David Moyes drops player for final home game
David Moyes has named his starting line-up as West Ham United host Luton Town at London Stadium.
The Scotsman has made just one change following the Hammers’ 5-0 humbling at the hands of Chelsea in their last outing on 5 May, as confirmed by the club’s website [11 May].
James Ward-Prowse starts in midfield in place of Edson Alvarez, who has played 30 times in the Premier League this season but drops to the bench today.
David Moyes will hope to mark his last West Ham United home game with a win
Moyes will be hoping to ensure his final game at the London Stadium as West Ham head coach is a positive occasion – and securing a win over relegation strugglers Luton will be crucial to that.
The Scotsman is due to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season and is expected to be replaced by Julen Lopetegui.
However, recent form has been poor, with West Ham enduring a six-game winless run in all competitions.
Furthermore, they have shipped five goals in two of their last three games, with a 5-2 defeat against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on 21 April preceding the 5-0 drubbing they suffered against the Blues at Stamford Bridge last time out.
Moyes’ final game in charge will be against title-chasing Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on 19 May – a game in which the Hammers will be considered significant underdogs – meaning this clash with Luton is the 61-year-old’s best chance to secure one last victory as West Ham’s head coach and avoid ending his spell at the club with an eight-game winless streak.
