West Ham told to sack Lopetegui during Liverpool game – ‘Beyond acceptable’
Julen Lopetegui can’t keep getting away with “humiliations” at West Ham United after the 5-0 Liverpool loss, Jacob Steinberg says.
The Guardian journalist hinted that the Spanish manager should be sacked after conceding three against the Reds in the opening 45 minutes.
Arne Slot’s team were admittedly brilliant, but the Hammers’ performance at home on Sunday (29 December) has been termed unacceptable.
Steinberg wrote on his personal X account (29 December) after the first half: “How many humiliations in half a season does one manager get away with? Beyond acceptable, even if Liverpool brilliant. Barely competing.
“And West Ham lucky during that four-game unbeaten run that opponents didn’t punish them.”
Julen Lopetegui needs to be sacked after West Ham United loss to Liverpool
Lopetegui has been fortunate not to be sacked by the Irons yet after some poor displays from his team in the current campaign.
The East London club have won just six games in the Premier League this season, which is unacceptable.
After the impressive summer transfer window, the London Stadium faithful undoubtedly expected the Hammers to compete for European places in the English top flight, but that hasn’t been the case.
West Ham are 13th in the league table and could soon be pulled into the relegation battle if things don’t turn around for them.
The Irons were unbeaten in their previous four Premier League fixtures before the Liverpool loss, but the performances at that time did not convince the fans.
David Sullivan seems reluctant to part ways with Lopetegui, but the recent defeat should be enough reason for the Hammers’ chief to pull the plug on the former Wolves manager’s tenure.
In other West Ham news, a former Chelsea attacker has been offered ahead of the January window.
