West Ham player ratings in Europa League clash v Sevilla

West Ham have advanced into the quarter finals of the Europa League following their victory over Sevilla at the London Stadium.

Aunty Yarmolenko once again came from off the bench to score the decisive goal for the Hammers in the second half of extra time.

All eyes now turn to the draw that takes place on Friday (March 18) at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland, where the Hammers will find out who they face in the quarter and semi-final.

West Ham

Alphonse Areola – 9

Moyes had a tough decision in terms of selection between the sticks and he got it spot on. His excellent first half save allowed the Irons to go down the other end a matter of minutes later and take the lead. Had that chance gone in, West Ham might not have won the game.

Ben Johnson – 7

Much of the same as what was seen in the first leg from the 22-year-old. He was calm in possession but brave with his passing and ball carrying down the right hand side. Another European knockout tie under his belt already in his hopefully long West Ham career.

Craig Dawson – 6

A fairly quiet night for the veteran at the heart of the Hammers defence. When he was called into action, Dawson dealt with any issues without any nonsense at all. He wore his heart on his sleeve as he does every time he puts on the claret & blue shirt.

Kurt Zouma – 7

He was a threat in both boxes. Held the West Ham defence together very well against a tricky ball playing Spanish outfit but he never really looked under huge pressure. Much like Dawson, there was no nonsense on a night where no mistakes were allowed.

Aaron Cresswell – 7

As usual his dead ball deliveries were spot on. Albeit the Hammers failed to capitalise from them but the left-back caused huge problems with every set piece. He did well when called upon in defence but it was a fairly quiet night for him as the Irons dominated.

West Ham

Declan Rice – 7

There isn’t much we have not said about Rice is there? As expected, he was solid in midfield and was relentless with everything he did. At not one point did he allow his teammates’ standard to drop, continuously encouraging and urging them over the finish line.

Tomas Soucek (MOM) – 9

The Czech Republic international showed his brilliant attacking ability on display so often last season. He supported Antonio excellently throughout both halves as well as being resolute when called upon in defence. His superb opening goal epitomised his performance.

Pablo Fornals – 7

Performed excellently against his fellow countryman. He was very lively down the right hand side in the absence of injured Jarrod Bowen. He was very smart on the ball and seemed to make the right pass every time he was in possession.

Manuel Lanzini – 7

Linked up the pay incredibly. A lot of the good stuff the Irons played went through the Argentine. He was very unlucky not to score the winning goal with a fierce strike from the edge of the box and a blocked effort as he tenaciously followed the ball on the rebound.

West Ham

Said Benrahma – 7

The Algerian linked up very well with Cresswell, Antonio and Lanzini down the left channel. Despite not making any notable contributions, the forward was very tidy in everything he did, barely giving away keeping hold of the ball very well.

Michail Antonio – 8

A hugely important inclusion tonight amid injury concerns. The 31-year-old struck fear into the Sevilla defence every single time he got the ball or made a run. He improvised very well to assist the first goal and as usual, ran tirelessly. The Sevilla defenders will have nightmares about him tonight.

Substitutes:

Andriy Yarmolenko (on for Fornals 88′) – 10

Was very tidy when he came on despite a lack of game time of late. Scored the all important winner in the second half of extra time, completing his fairytale return from compassionate leave.
