West Ham: Don Hutchison makes Thierry Henry comparison after ‘Jarrod Bowen moment v Freiburg
Jarrod Bowen was likened to Thierry Henry by TNT Sports co-commentator Don Hutchison after what he did in the Europa League against Freiburg on Thursday (7 March).
The England star showed great pace down the right following neat work from Mohammed Kudus and held up a fantastic ball that Lucas Paqueta could not finish in the first-leg fixture at Stade-Europa Park.
It was a moment where Hutchison, speaking on commentary on TNT Sports 2, was reminded of Arsenal legend Henry.
“This is where he’s good on this side, that’s where I think Jarrod Bowen does his best work,” he said.
“You think Thierry Henry back in the day used to do his work down the left side, Bowen does his down the right side.
“He’s played down that side for West Ham for many a year, it’s a natural position. It’s a lovely cross to Paqueta.”
The Hammers had plenty of chances during the game but fell to a 1-0 defeat ahead of the return leg at London Stadium with substitute Michael Gregoritsch scoring the only goal of the game.
West Ham ace Jarrod Bowen likened to Arsenal great Thierry Henry
There is not much higher praise a player could receive than being likened to the great Thierry Henry, who is widely considered as one of the greatest Premier League players of all time.
As good as Bowen is, and he really is excellent, it might be a bit of a stretch to compare him to the France great – albeit Hammers fans will probably beg to differ given how good he has been for the Hammers.

It wasn’t always a great night for Bowen, who absolutely fluffed a golden opportunity in the first half after excellent work from Mohammed Kudus, but he was his typical bundle of energy when leading the line for David Moyes’ side.
Such praise has become typical for Bowen and surely if he continues to impress between now and the end of the season he will be back in Germany as part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024 this summer.
