West Ham captain drops 5/10 in Hammers' loss to Forest
West Ham lost their second game of the season 1-0 to Nottingham Forest in a hard-fought game away at the City Ground on Sunday.
The game was a cagey affair with both teams having chances and threatening the opposition goals on numerous occasions.
However, Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi’s first goal for the club, a tap-in on the brink of half-time, was the only goal of the game and secured all three points for the Premier League new-boys.
Here, West Ham Zone rates the players out of 10 for their performances:
Lukasz Fabianski – 7
Made some good saves throughout the game especially one from Neco Williams in the first half. Could not do anything about the Awoniyi goal but solid display.
Vladimir Coufal – 6
Struggled with the offensive runs and energy of Forest left-back Harry Toffolo while offering little going the other way.
Kurt Zouma – 6
Struggled in the first-half to deal with Awoniyi threat but much more composed in the second-half.
Ben Johnson- 6
Youngster was playing out of position and was unfortunate for Jesse Lingard’s shot to deflect off him into Awoniyi’s path for the Forest goal. Other than that, coped well with the pressure.
Aaron Cresswell – 6
Made several marauding runs forward and had some good crosses but was otherwise quiet.
Declan Rice – 5
Unable to impose himself on the match and missed a penalty that could have brought the Hammers level. Disappointing performance by his standards.
Tomas Soucek – 6
Got into some good attacking positions and his shot was handballed by Scott McKenna. Otherwise failed to impose himself on the game.
Said Benrahma – 8
My man of the match. Benrahma was a threat throughout the match, had a goal disallowed and hit the bar with a fantastic free-kick. Did not deserve to be on the losing team.
Pablo Fornals – 8
Fornals was also impressive. Won several midfield duels, created opportunities and was a positive player before he was substituted.
Michail Antonio – 8
Had a good game and was a nuisance for the Forest defence. Unfortunately fouled Orel Mangala to rule out Benrahma’s goal.
