Tony Gale blown away by Jarrod Bowen strike v Brentford

Tony Gale was left buzzing after Jarrod Bowen’s second half strike against Brentford brought West Ham back on level terms.

However, the Hammers failed to hold on to their lead as Yoane Wissa scored late into stoppage time to seal the three points for the Bees.

It took away the joy of scoring for Bowen, who had to wait for a while before finally finding the back of the net.

Speaking on Premier League’s world feed, Gale, a Sky Sports pundit said, “That’s a smashing half volley by Bowen. The keeper didn’t even have a chance to move. He’s finally got his goal.”

Good goal but bad performance

Bowen’s goal was one for the highlights reel and rightly sent the London Stadium into ecstasy.

However, they were quickly brought back down to earth after their side’s performance at full time.

Even though there was very little anyone could do to stop Wissa’s strike, the overall performance of the Hammers did very little to exuberate confidence.

Playing against a newly-promoted side at home, they were expected to show up and put in a good performance, but failed in their efforts to grab the game by the scruff of its neck.

Plenty of players underwhelmed on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

The Hammers had a great chance to break into the top four with Manchester United, Everton and Brighton dropping points, but that, unfortunately, did not happen.
