TalkSPORT broadcaster slams West Ham ‘disaster’ Lucas Paqueta after incident v Bayer Leverkusen

West Ham United ‘disaster’ Lucas Paqeuta has been slammed by Tom Rennie after a “stupid” moment during the Irons clash with Bayer Leverkusen.

David Moyes’ side were well beaten 2-0 in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final in Germany on Thursday (11 April) as Jonas Hofmann’s and Victor Boniface’s second-half strikes were the ultimate difference between the two sides.

Perhaps more disastrous than the result was the fact Paqeuta picked up a yellow card in the first half and will now miss the second leg at the London Stadium through suspension, much to the frustration of talkSPORT broadcaster Rennie.

Writing on X on Thursday (11 April) he said: “That’s so stupid from Paqueta. Totally lost his composure and now misses the second leg. Bit of a disaster really.”

Will West Ham United be able to start Lucas Paqueta v Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League?

Supporters and pundits will agree that when he is at his best, there are few better in the Premier League or Europe than Paqueta in his attacking midfield role, but from time to time, the Brazilian can be incredibly naive.

To pick up a yellow card so early on in proceedings for a needless moment is nothing short of ridiculous from the midfielder and it is a huge blow to the Hammers’ hopes of coming out on top across the two legs of this tie.

Moyes’ side have really struggled for form this season when Paqueta hasn’t been available and with Edson Alvarez, Kalvin Phillips and Jarrod Bown all potentially missing as well, the Scotsman doesn’t have many options.

Hopefully, the Hammers will be able to get over the line without the Brazilian and book their place in the semi-finals. At least he will have a clean slate for the final stages of the competition if the Irons can pull off an impressive win.
