Supercomputer shares new West Ham United relegation prediction after 5-1 loss v Newcastle United, Everton to go down

West Ham United are still expected to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season despite their embarrassing 5-1 defeat at home against Newcastle United.

David Moyes’ men were completely dismantled at the London Stadium on Wednesday night (5 April) but FiveThirtyEight’s supercomputer predicts the Irons will still avoid relegation fairly comfortably.

It is understood that the Hammers have a 15 per cent chance of going down and are predicted to finish in 14th place.

As it stands, United are 15th but level on points with Bournemouth in the drop zone in 18th.

West Ham’s goal difference is their only saving grace right now but that took a battering at the hands of Eddie Howe’s Magpies on Wednesday.

FiveThirtyEight’s algorithm believes the three favourites to go down are Southampton, Bournemouth and Everton.

Concerning

Despite FiveThirtyEight’s game-by-game prediction of the final Premier League table saying that we’ll be safe, we feel anything but that right now.

Yes, Newcastle are a great side who look as though they’re going to qualify for the Champions League.

However, losing in that manner in front of the home crowd is never acceptable.

Every goal was so preventable from West Ham’s point of view.

West Ham

And what makes matters worse is that we were in the game in the first half with Kurt Zouma’s goal giving us a lot of hope going into the second period.

But huge errors by the likes of Thilo Kehrer, Lukasz Fabianski and Nayef Aguerd have cost the Irons massively – we can no longer rely on our defence to keep us up.

Goals are an issue but our defensive record had been fairly good up until Newcastle arrived in East London.

West Ham’s saving grace is that they have a game in hand on most of their relegation rivals but there are also some tough matches still to play against Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United with European games crammed in there too.
