Stuart Pearce wowed by ‘wonderful’ Aaron Cresswell in West Ham United win v Liverpool

Stuart Peace was impressed for Aaron Cresswell and his crossing for West Ham in the EFL Cup defeat against Liverpool.

The Hammers have been knocked out of the cup before the fourth round after a 5-1 loss against the Reds at Anfield.

A Jarell Quansah own goal put Julen Lopetegui’s men in front before a Diogo Jota double gave the home side a lead to hang on to, which they duly did with help from Mohammed Salah and a Cody Gakpo brace.

Despite the result, the left back stood out to Pearce with his ability to pick out his man from a cross perfectly on show throughout the clash at Anfield.

Speaking live on talkSPORT on 25 September (8:12pm), the former Irons defender said: “These are good opportunities, Cresswell with a wonderful delivery.”

Aaron Cresswell shines for West Ham v Liverpool

Things looked to be going well for the Hammers in the first half after Danny Ings looked as if he had put his side ahead but was caught offside.

It wasn’t long before the Irons were ahead though when Jarell Quansah was unlucky to see the ball come off him and find the net.

This was potentially undeserved for Julen Lopetegui’s side who had generally struggled to create much other than Jarrod Bowen occasionally on the break.

Liverpool eventually made them pay thanks to a Jota double and a Salah substitute strike which put the game out of the away side’s reach.

This just compounded a poor run of results under the Spaniard at the London Stadium which has created a sour atmosphere around the club.

The clash at Anfield wasn’t all doom and gloom despite a negative result with there silver linings to take back to East London.
