Sky Sports pundit slams Jarrod Bowen over incident in West Ham United clash v Brighton

Sue Smith slammed Jarrod Bowen for conceding a “clumsy” penalty in the first half of West Ham United’s clash with Brighton at the AMEX on Saturday.

Alexis Mac Allister scored the resulting spot-kick after Bowen, 26, felled Kaoru Mitoma inside the penalty area.

In her instant reaction to the incident, Smith shared how poorly Bowen did in his efforts to contain Mitoma before giving away the penalty.

Speaking on Sky Sports News in the first half (4 March, 3:17pm), Smith said: “Mitoma does so well. It’s a good first touch, gets himself into the area and it’s just a bit clumsy from Jarrod Bowen.

“He has to try and cut back but he doesn’t and he collides with Mitoma.

“Mitoma’s definitely in the area with the ball and there’s definitely contact.

“It’s a definite penalty and referee Stuart Atwell points straight to the spot.”

Poor

West Ham are hitting self-destruct mode.

If it wasn’t for the 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest last week, David Moyes would be out of a job and we’d be close to hiring a new manager – if one hadn’t been brought in already.

Brighton isn’t an easy place to go. They’re one of the best teams in the Premier League outside of the so-called big six.

But the Hammers’ record at the AMEX is atrocious having never won a Premier League match there.

However, that’s not the biggest issue right now, it’s the fact that we’re continually losing goals, continually making bad defensive mistakes and continually struggling to score.

If anyone wants to bring up the result against Forest, it’s very obvious that was an anomaly – a one-off.

It really wouldn’t be a shock to see the Irons in the Championship again next season based on how we’ve played so far this week.
