Sky Sports man savages Aaron Cresswell for what he did in West Ham United defeat v Brentford

Aaron Cresswell has been blasted by Sky Sports reporter Ron Walker for his role in Brentford’s second goal in their win over West Ham on Friday (30 December).

The Hammers started brightly but fell behind when Ivan Toney poked home in the box after confusion from a long throw, before the Bees doubled their lead when Josh Dasilva cruised past Cresswell and scored, leaving Brentford fans mocking the home side.

And the veteran defender, who was playing as a centre-back in a back five during the game, was blasted by Sky reporter Walker with the West Ham defence branded “fragile” for their first-half showing.

“That’s another really poor goal from a defensive perspective,” he wrote, as quoted on Sky Sports (30 December).

“Cresswell gets outpaced, outmuscled and outfought by Dasilva.

“West Ham have been too predictable in attack, and too fragile in defence. The boos will be ringing around this place shortly.”

Awful

The goal comes from another throw-in, and the defending is simply horrible from all involved but especially Cresswell.

This is an experienced defender who has played at the highest level for several years, and knows the standards required to be successful.

He hasn’t been good enough for a while now, but David Moyes continues to pick him despite Ben Johnson performing well and the signing of European champion Emerson Palmieri in the summer.

He was battered from pillar to post by the midfielder and made it far too easy for him to get in on goal and get his shot off, and West Ham had a huge mountain to climb from that point on.

It’s simply not good enough and something has to change with his role in the squad, because he is no longer capable of being relied upon at this level for West Ham United and everyone but Moyes can see it.
