Said Benrahma likely to be dropped for West Ham clash v Manchester City

Roshane Thomas expects Said Benrahma to be dropped by David Moyes when West Ham welcome Manchester City to the London Stadium in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

Benrahma, 26, has gone off the boil in recent weeks and hasn’t scored or assisted a goal in his last four Premier League appearances.

While the Algeria international isn’t playing badly, The Athletic journalist Thomas reckons it’s likely he’ll be axed by Moyes for the meeting with Man City.

“Benrahma had another quiet game,” said Thomas on The Athletic website after West Ham’s win over Spurs.

“Can see Moyes dropping him to the bench for the cup game against Man City.”

Much-needed rest

Moyes’ players have done a fantastic job so far this season.

As it stands, we’re top of our Europa League group, in the last-16 of the Carabao Cup and fourth in the Premier League.

We could only dream of having a start to the season this good.

Benrahma started the season with a house on fire, scoring goals and setting them up, crafting a superb relationship with Michail Antonio up front.

However, it is fair to say that his form has dipped a bit and a rest could benefit the former Brentford attacker a lot.

Man City will be a tough to beat, let’s face it.

We haven’t had an easy draw here and if we’re knocked out of the Carabao Cup at this stage, we’ll just have to hold our hands up and say: ‘Fair enough’.

Moyes shouldn’t make too many changes but leaving out Benrahma does make a lot of sense in our opinion.

In other West Ham news, this is what Michail Antonio said to Cristian Romero in the win over Tottenham.
