‘Running the show’ – John Hartson in awe of West Ham star v Arsenal

It was much more positive from West Ham United on Saturday night, but they still fell to a 2-1 defeat against Arsenal.

David Moyes was left raging after sloppy defending saw his side concede a late goal at the Emirates Stadium.

With the Hammers also losing their opening game against Newcastle, they remain on zero points and have some tough fixtures ahead.

John Hartson was watching on in North London and was blown away by one player, in particular, and no surprise it was Declan Rice.

“How good have West Ham been tonight… Declan Rice running the show,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

Rice has been in the spotlight at the London Stadium for many years now, with the Irons not having much else to celebrate.

There have been many reports linking the midfielder with a move back to Chelsea, and performances like the one on Saturday will only fuel that.

The 21-year-old completed two tackles and three interceptions according to WhoScored and kept the Gunners most dangerous players such as Willian at arms length.

Rice also drops back and helps his defence, with his four clearances preventing many chances in and around the 18-yard box.

Hartson was clearly impressed, and so were we, but if these defeats continue, it won’t be long until Rice finds himself looking for a move and that day will be dark.
