Robbie Savage reacts instantly to West Ham controversy v Leicester – ‘Poor’

Leicester left much to be desired for Robbie Savage as West Ham cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory over them at the London Stadium on Thursday.

A goal from Tomas Soucek followed by an own goal by Jannik Vestergaard saw West Ham build on their 1-0 win against Arsenal on Saturday, 22 February.

The result saw Graham Potter’s side move further away from the drop zone and climb above Everton in the Premier League while pushing the Foxes closer to relegation.

Ruud van Nistelrooy and Co can have no complaints about the defeat as they were second best in all parts of the pitch, although they will be upset with one contentious decision.

Savage questions Mohammed Kudus controversy

Vestergaard’s own goal came from a James Ward-Prowse corner, which the Denmark international turned into his own net after Jarrod Bowen took a shot, but Savage is not sure if the corner should have been given in the first place.

The pundit admitted that whether or not the ball deflected off a Leicester player after Mohammed Kudus’ cross is a “big question”, although it was ultimately “poor” defending from the visitors.

“It’s really poor defensively”, Savage said on TNT Sports, via the BBC live blog (27 February, 8:46 pm).

“I think the big question is, was there a touch off a Leicester player for a corner?

“I don’t think we can see it from the cross but it must’ve been the faintest touch.”

Leicester pose no threat to West Ham

Anyone who watched the game would agree that Leicester had no chance of beating West Ham even if that corner was not given and the own goal did not stand.

Van Nistelrooy set the team up to defend and the plan clearly did not go according to plan as the Foxes struggled to keep the Hammers at bay.

Apart from being poor defensively, their tactics made it hard for them to cause West Ham headaches in attack.

Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola and the defenders had hardly anything to do against Jamie Vardy and Co.

Nevertheless, West Ham have now won two games on the trot after being winless in four games before that.

With only 11 games left to play, the East London outfit are well on course to retain their Premier League status, with Potter putting any concerns about relegation they had under Julen Lopetegui to bed.
