Rob Green raves about what ‘brilliant’ West Ham player did vs Liverpool

Rob Green was full of praise for Alphonse Areola in the first half of West Ham’s clash with Liverpool.

A cagey first-half at the London Stadium on Sunday ended 0-0, with West Ham looking to go four games unbeaten under Nuno Espirito Santo.

West Ham aren’t favourites to beat Liverpool, although they started the game positively, with Callum Wilson finding some space in behind.

The biggest chance came from the away side, and Green was impressed by what Areola did to prevent Alexander Isak from scoring his first Premier League goal for Liverpool.

Rob Green loves what Alphonse Areola did in first half vs Liverpool

Areola was excellent against Bournemouth last weekend, and he has come back into the side in brilliant form after starting the season on the bench.

In the 21st minute, Cody Gakpo headed the ball across goal to Alexander Isak, who attempted to acrobatically finish home from six yards out.

However, Areola made himself big to stop the Swedish striker by throwing his bodies in the way of the shot.

Speaking on commentary during the match, Green was astounded by what both players did to keep the scoreline 0-0.

He said: “It’s a brilliant block by Areola, he’s done it by any means possible. Between them, [Konstantinos] Mavropanos and Areola have certainly done the job.”

The French goalkeeper made a total of three saves in the opening 45 minutes, and he could be in for a lot more action after the break.

Alphonse Areola proving his worth for West Ham again

At the start of the season, Mads Hermansen’s arrival from Leicester spelt trouble for the French goalkeeper’s first-team minutes.

However, due to the Dane’s poor performances, Areola has been given another chance by Nuno, and he is seizing it brilliantly.

Areola’s mistake against Burnley on 8 November has been completely overshadowed by what he did against Bournemouth.

After another solid 45 minutes against the reigning champions, Areola is certainly playing his part to help the Hammers secure another positive result.
