Owen Hargreaves reacts to Jarrod Bowen penalty incident v Liverpool
Owen Hargreaves has suggested that the decision to award a penalty to West Ham was the right one as Joe Gomez made a “terrible” mistake.
The Reds managed a 1-0 win in the Premier League, with Darwin Nunez finding the net in the first half.
Towards the end of the first half, the Hammers got a glorious opportunity to equalise, but Bowen missed his penalty, with Alisson moving the right way to save it.

The BT Sport pundit has suggested that Gomez did foul Bowen, and the decision to award the penalty was spot on.
“First of all, West Ham barely had a kick in the game until that point. They didn’t have much of a ball, didn’t pose threat,” said Hargreaves on Premier League Tv Production (19 October).
“But Joe Gomez has made some terrible decisions. It’s a clear foul on Jarrod Bowen. The referee didn’t see it in real time but he got to monitor and he realised his mistake.”
Poor result
It was a frustrating night for the club and the fans. The Hammers didn’t deserve to lose.
Bowen should have scored from the spot and the Hammers at least deserved a draw.
In the second half, Gianluca Scamacca got two or three brilliant opportunities to score but he couldn’t hit the target.
Another fantastic chance fell to Tomas Soucek, whose effort was blocked by James Milner from close range.

To be fair, after the introduction of Said Benrahma, the Hammers looked like the better team of the two, and it will be a great injustice if Moyes doesn’t include him in the next game.
The day got bad to worse with Moyes confirming that Paqueta has picked up a serious injury and he is not sure when the midfielder could return.
In his first Premier League game, summer signing Flynn Downes really impressed. He was energetic throughout and was involved in brilliant link-up plays.
