Nuno Espirito Santo has questions to answer amid ‘ridiculous’ West Ham situation vs Brentford

West Ham succumbed to a 2-0 loss to Brentford on a miserable night in East London.

West Ham were looking to arrest a miserable record against Brentford, but they could not do so at the London Stadium on 20 October.

Nuno Espirito Santo made five changes to his West Ham side, but it did not have the required effect against the Bees.

Igor Thiago’s strike in the 43rd minute and Mathias Jansen’s last-gasp effort were enough for the visitors to take all three points on the night.

West Ham issue continues to hamper them

West Ham’s clash with the Bees was thrown into chaos by an announcement from Premier League before the contest.

The Hammers were just as chaotic when it came to the action on the pitch, with the visitors having several chances before they took the lead.

Speaking in the 32nd minute of the contest, Sky Sports pundit and ex-Arsenal striker Alan Smith was dumbfounded by an issue that continues to hamper the Irons.

He said (20:32 pm): “It’s getting ridiculous isn’t it, every single time it comes it the box, a Brentford player gets there first, West Ham are all over the shop.”

West Ham should not be getting beat in the air so much

The Hammers boast several tall players, such as Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo and Tomas Soucek, but they still got beat in their air constantly.

Nuno left Konstantinos Mavropanos on the bench, which seems like an even crazier decision after the fact, given his prowess in the air.

Keith Andrews’ side created 0.80 expected goals from set pieces, which is simply not acceptable given the height that the E20 outfit have at their disposal.

As Smith said, the Hammers were all over the place, when it comes to the ball coming into the box, particularly from the air.

Kilman was beaten in the air by a long ball, controlled by Kevin Schade, who played in Thiago, and the Brazilian made no mistake.

It had been coming, as Nuno’s side were always struggling with aerial threats, and it is something that the Portuguese manager needs to fix as soon as possible.

Their aerial ability should be one of the Irons’ strengths, but instead it proved a huge weakness and then they were picked off at the end.

Nuno has serious questions to answer on the matter.
