Nuno Espirito Santo gets it wrong with Luis Guilherme call as West Ham starting XI vs Manchester United revealed

West Ham have named their starting XI to face Manchester United on Thursday.

Man United are set to play host to West Ham at Old Trafford in the final instalment of this mid-week Premier League action.

The away trip to go against the Red Devils poses a perfect opportunity for Nuno Espirito Santo to bounce back after West Ham lost 2-0 against Liverpool last time around.

He will have to do so without Lucas Paqueta after he was sent off against Liverpool, after two yellow cards were brandished for dissent within a minute.

The Hammers have opted against backing Luis Guilherme to thrive as Paqueta’s replacement, something which may prove to be a mistake.

West Ham name starting 11 to face Manchester United

West Ham being without Lucas Paqueta is a blow for a trip to face Ruben Amorim’s side, but it can’t act as a distraction for the Irons.

The claret and blue army are ready to line up in similar fashion to the Liverpool defeat, even if the Brazilian is missing.

Alphonse Areola has remained in goal and is once again supported by El Hadji Malick Diouf, Jean-Clair Todibo, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Freddie Potts and Soungoutou Magassa have also kept their places, with Matheus Fernandes playing slightly advanced of the midfield pairing.

Jarrod Bowen and Callum Wilson remain in the side, but will be joined in attacking situations by Tomas Soucek, who will be keen to take his chance while his fellow countryman sits on the sidelines.

Guilherme has missed out from the starting 11 but against a side who can struggle down the flanks, it may prove to be a mistake.

Luis Guilherme represents risk for West Ham

The Brazilian youngster came in with so much hype, but the London Stadium faithful were willing to be patient with the winger.

He has been backed when given a chance to perform, but has been afforded just 18 appearances over nearly one and a half seasons in claret and blue.

Guilherme deserves more, but chucking him at the deep end at Old Trafford was a risk and may not have paid off for the Irons, especially up against more senior wingback options.

The teenager might benefit the Hammers more as an impact substitute as he continues his search for a first Premier League goal.
