Mohammed Kudus ‘Poor’ after moment in West Ham United defeat v Manchester City

Connor McNamara has slated West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus after the 3-1 loss against Manchester City on 31 August.

The Hammers put up a solid fight against the reigning Premier League champions but that didn’t stop McNamara from picking out the Ghana international.

Erling Haaland fired home another three goals on the night, but it was Kudus’ work on the counter-attack that let his all-round efforts down in the end.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live [31 August, 18:53], McNamara said: “That’s poor from Kudus, he has been good on the ball but his decision-making wasn’t right there.”

Mohammed Kudus needs to refind West Ham United form

West Ham are one of a few Premier League teams that have made several changes to their squad.

One area that they particularly focused on is that of their attack. The likes of Crysencio Summerville and Niclas Fullkrug have both been added to the Hammers’ ranks [The Rest is Football Podcast, 16 August].

And, although the duo haven’t yet started a Premier League game, it’s evident that they’ve been brought in to help bolster the final third and perhaps even help push them back into Europe.

Despite being one of David Moyes’ key players last term, since the 2024/25 season started, Kudus has failed to perform to the same standards he set last season.

Although it’s still early days in the season, Kudus needs to pick up his form to help Julen Lopetegui meet his targets for the season.

It is time for consistency now, not just showing up for glimpses in these massive games.
