Mike Dean reacts to West Ham United v Brentford controversy live on Sky Sports

Former Premier League referee Mike Dean has reacted to the VAR controversy in the match between West Ham and Brentford.

The Hammers travelled to West London to take on the Bees for their Premier League encounter on Saturday (4 November).

And there was a key decision in the first half of the game to be made by VAR after Jarrod Bowen’s goal was checked for a handball.

“West Ham have turned this around,” Dean said live on Soccer Saturday (3.29pm, 4 November), as quoted by Sky Sports. “It has clearly hit his stomach and I expect that to be given – it clearly hits him in the midriff!”

Favourable

Not all of the VAR decisions involving West Ham have been in favour of David Moyes’s side, but the manager can have no complaints here.

The goal from Bowen began with a cross from his teammate Said Benrahma, with Mohammed Kudus missing a golden opportunity to score his second of the match after netting earlier on.

But the summer signing hit the post, with winger Bowen netting from the rebound to put the visitors 2-1 ahead, with Neal Maupay having opened the scoring for the hosts.

VAR was called into action for Bowen’s goal for a possible handball by the England ace, but replays showed it hit him on the stomach, with the goal given.

It completed a fine turnaround from the Hammers at Gtech Community Stadium, and represented a record for Bowen, who has now become the first player in Premier League history to score in his club’s first six away matches.

In other West Ham news, Hammers scouts are in action already with a new South American transfer on the cards in January.
