Mike Dean reacts to Mohammed Kudus controversy in West Ham v Spurs, FA sent message

Mike Dean has called on the FA to take retrospective action against Mohammed Kudus after the West Ham forward lashed out at opposition players in the 4-1 loss to Tottenham.

Spurs hosted the Hammers on Saturday (19 October) and, after a tightly contested first half, Julen Lopetegui’s team faltered as they were convincingly beaten.

Towards the end of the match, with the visitors already having conceded four goals, Kudus lost the plot as he fouled Micky van de Ven and subsequently put his hands on the defender before clashing with Pape Matar Sarr.

Speaking on Sky Sports News [19 October, 14:13], Mike Dean reacted: “When you see the footage back, the first one he could’ve gotten sent off for, which I hope that he has.

“Then hopefully, the second one, the FA will take retrospective action. Should be get done twice, in my opinion, because he’s hit two different players in the face on two occasions.”

Mohammed Kudus has let West Ham down

With the game already out of West Ham’s reach, Kudus had no reason to do what he did.

The Ghana international has been one of the team’s best players since the Hammers signed him from Ajax in the summer of 2023.

However, the petulance the 24-year-old displayed towards the end of the game against Tottenham is shameful.

West Ham Mohammed Kudus-2
Mohammed Kudus has been a revelation since joining West Ham United from Ajax just last summer

Kudus has left his team down, and while the forward will miss the next three due to the direct red card, it remains to be seen whether the FA will decide to punish him further.

Lopetegui already has a lot of issues to address at the Hammers, and this will only add to the Spanish manager’s headaches.

West Ham have started poorly under the new head coach, and it will not be surprising to see questions being raised over the Spaniard’s continuity in the dugout.

With players like Niklas Fullkrug on the sidelines, Kudus was one of West Ham’s main goalscorers, and his absence will be difficult for the team to cope with.
