Mike Dean reacts to Arsenal controversy v West Ham United on Sky Sports

Mike Dean has reacted to yet another Arsenal red card as they crashed to a 1-0 defeat against a brilliant West Ham and Graham Potter.

Even before Myles Lewis-Skelly was sent off, it was Jarrod Bowen who put the Irons ahead at the Emirates Stadium, infront of a moaning crowd.

The young defender brought Mohammed Kudus down after he was about to run through on goal following his excellent defensive work on halfway.

Arsenal crying at controversy yet again

It led to huge complaints on social media and at the Emirates yet again from the whinging Gunners, despite it looking like a straight-forward call yet again.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News (22 February, 16:29), Dean reacted as footage of the incident came into the studio where he was sitting.

“100 per cent,” he said.

“If he doesn’t bring him down, even if he’s on the halfway line, that’s the only doubt with the referee as he’s so far from goal, he’s only got the goalkeeper probably 20 yards in front of him, then about 30 or 40 yards behind him.

“So, for me, it’s definitely a goalscoring opportunity, 100 per cent a red card.”

Graham Potter picks up huge West Ham win at Arsenal

This is exactly what the Irons and Potter needed.

It has been a slow start for the new manager at the London Stadium, but West Ham got everything spot on at the Emirates and left with a deserved three points.

After the close defeat at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea in recent weeks, there was a sense that the Hammers can cause real trouble to the top sides in the Premier League in this system.

Lewis-Skelly can have zero complaints either, he could for his challenge against Wolves which saw a red card rescinded weeks ago, but he was caught out here in embarrassing Arsenal scenes.

Moving 13 points clear of the Premier League relegation zone means that the Irons can now use the end of this season to nail down this system under Potter.

Next season will be where it really counts and with a clean bill of health and a couple of new signings, things are really starting to look up at West Ham.

Bowen and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are perfect proof that players can shine under Potter, and now it is down to the rest of the squad to pick up their game and follow suit.
