Michael Dawson was left laughing after Kris Boyd insisted Guglielmo Vicario should have done better with a save from Mohammed Kudus in the West Ham defeat against Tottenham.

Speaking on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday (19 October, 12:42), Dawson described Kudus' powerful shot from 12 yards which Vicario had then tipped over the crossbar in the 4-1 defeat.

Boyd, covering another match, was quick to chime in and argue that the effort could have been caught by the Spurs goalkeeper, sparking laughter from Dawson and his fellow pundits.

Dawson said: "Kudus comes in from the left – solid right foot, power, pace behind it. Fortunately for Vicario, it was straight above his head – he was only probably 12 yards out, it came with so much power (that he) tipped it over the bar."

Boyd immediately quipped: "(Vicario) should've caught it."

Dawson laughed in reply: "You what? What did you say Boydy, he should've caught it?"

Mohammed Kudus chance proves vital in West Ham v Tottenham

With the game still finely poised at 0-0 when Vicario tipped Kudus' powerful shot over the crossbar, it took the Ghanaian just six more minutes to open the scoring for the Irons in North London.

However, that proved to be as good as things would get for Julen Lopetegui's side, with a second-half collapse seeing the Hammers concede three times within eight minutes to go 4-1 down.

That came after Dejan Kulusevski's equaliser and had Kudus' earlier effort hit the back of the net, who knows if Spurs would have been able to get themselves back into the game at 2-0.

Kudus scoring two quick-fire goals, particularly after a disappointing international break with Ghana, would have put the Irons firmly in control of the match, leaving Spurs with a mountain to climb.

The slide from euphoria to despair continues for Kudus, who rather than being celebrated for two goals, instead received a late red card for a rash challenge which sums up the out-of-control feeling West Ham are generating this season.
