Mark Lawrenson predicts West Ham v Crystal Palace clash

Mark Lawrenson predicts West Ham to keep up their 100% start to the 2021/22 campaign with a win over Crystal Palace at the London Stadium on Saturday.

The two sides head into the weekend’s clash in contrasting moods as they sit at opposite ends of the Premier League table.

Palace haven’t won any of their two league games so far, failing to find the back of the net.

Writing his weekly prediction on the BBC Sport website, Lawrenson doesn’t see anything changing for either side on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 win for the home side.

He wrote: “West Ham have won their opening two games and are top. Although it is still early days, you would think they may bring in two or three more signings before Tuesday’s transfer deadline too.

“They have the added matches of the Europa League this season, so if West Ham finish in the top 10 again that will be another accomplishment for [David] Moyes and the club.”

Big 50 incoming?

Michail Antonio is sure to be licking his lips at the prospect of lining up against Palace.

They have already been on the end of a thrashing by Chelsea, but they now face the top scorers in the Premier League so far.

As well as facing the team that has scored the most, they will come up against the player who currently sits top of the goalscoring charts alongside Bruno Fernandes.

Antonio scored in the opening day victory against Newcastle United before his brace against Leicester City on Monday saw him become the club’s record Premier League goalscorer with 49 goals.

He’ll be confident of making that 50 on Saturday, and possibly extending that tally even further.

In other West Ham news, this 23y/o attacker was benched on Thursday clash due to Irons transfer talks.
