Man City underhand ploy v West Ham exposed by Sky Sports, Arsenal fans won’t be pleased

Sky Sports presenter Dave Jones pointed out an “interesting” ploy used by Manchester City against West Ham to give them an advantage over Arsenal.

City went into Sunday’s (19 May) final day of the Premier League sitting a point above second-place Arsenal, who hosted Everton at Emirates Stadium at the same time.

And the Citizens smartly gave themselves the smallest of advantages before a ball was even kicked in either game as they were late coming onto the field.

Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event‘s live coverage [19 May, 3:58pm], Jones said: “You know something, there’s a twist already because City’s players should already be out on the field by now. That might be interesting later in the day.”

Manchester City use their Premier League title experience

City have been here before and used all of their prior knowledge heading into the final-day shootout. This was anything but a coincidence.

By kicking off even a minute or so later than Arsenal, that may have come in handy come the end of the second half.

The fact they did not enter the field until about two minutes until the planned kick-off time could land them in hot water.

Not that they will care about that after landing an unprecedented fourth-successive English top-flight crown.

City were slow coming onto the field but were fast out of the blocks, taking the lead inside a couple of minutes at the Etihad Stadium.

As for West Ham, there was nothing riding on the match and they supporters can now draw a line under a rather mixed 2023-24 campaign.
