Kudus invisible, Cresswell 8/10 MOTM- West Ham player ratings v Leicester

Aaron Cresswell starred for West Ham as they earned a 2-0 victory over Leicester at the London Stadium on Wednesday, with Mohammed Kudus flopping big time.

Tomas Soucek put West Ham in front just 21 minutes into the game, while an own-goal from Jannik Vestergaard towards the end of the first half doubled the lead for the hosts on 27 February.

While Leicester struggled to test Alphonse Areola in the Irons goal, Evan Ferguson had a chance to get his name on the scoresheet after coming on as a substitute, albeit with no success, meaning the game ended in a 2-0 win in favour of Graham Potter and Co.

Here, West Ham Zone rates each player out of 10.

Alphonse Areola – 5

Had little to do with Leicester only managing two shots on target.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka shines again

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7

Wan-Bissaka maintained his reputation as one of West Ham’s best players this season with another tidy performance in that right wing-back role.

Jean-Clair Todibo (Off for Kostas Mavropanos 66′) – 6

Todibo was a composed presence at the back for the hosts for as long as he was on the pitch, with Potter seemingly taking him off to protect him from injury after only recently regaining fitness.

Max Kilman – 5

Hardly broke a sweat, with a disappointing Leicester side struggling to cause him headaches in attack.

Aaron Cresswell – 8

Was the main reason for the opener as he fizzed the ball towards goal, allowing Soucek to tap in after Mohammed Kudus had his shot saved by Mads Hermansen. Looked like a new signing under Potter. Man of the Match.

Oliver Scarles (Off for Emerson 65′) – 5

Scarles had a relatively quiet outing after an impressive display against Arsenal.

Edson Alvarez assured in midfield

Edson Alvarez (Off for Carlos Soler 65′) – 7

Was another assured performance from Alvarez in the defensive midfield role. Wise from Potter to give him some rest after taking control of the game.

James Ward-Prowse – 6

Was involved in Vestergaard’s own goal as it came from his right-footed corner, although the cross was not great by any means.

Tomas Soucek (Off for Andy Irving 90′) – 7

Right man at the right place at the time to put West Ham in front.

Jarron Bowen – 5

Thought he was on the scoresheet again after bagging the winner against Arsenal, but it was ruled as a Vestergaard own goal.

Mohammed Kudus (Off for Evan Ferguson 73′) – 3

Kudus was a passenger for the most part. He was probably lucky it was a routine win against Leicester as West Ham need more from him.

Substitutions

Carlos Soler (On for Alvarez 65′) – 5

Emerson (On for Scarles 65′) – 5

Kostas Mavropanos (On for Todibo 66′) – 5

Evan Ferguson (On for Kudus 73′) – NA

Looked rusty as he took too much time to take a shot from a goalscoring chance in the 80th minute.

Andy Irving (On for Soucek 90′) – NA
