Jonathan Pearce slaughters ‘rotten’ Said Benrahma as West Ham United incident aired by BBC One

Jonathan Pearce destroyed “rotten” West Ham United star Said Benrahma after his kick out at Bristol City midfielder Joe Williams in their FA Cup replay cash on Tuesday (16 January).

West Ham United were looking to secure their place in the fourth round at Ashton Gate but made hard work of their task when Benrahma was sent off for kicking out at Williams after The Robins ace brought him to the ground.

The Robins took a surprise lead when Mavropanos gave away a poor back-pass which left goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianksi short before Tommy Conway took advantage to score into an empty net before Benrahma’s sending off in the second-half.

And BBC commentator Pearce, speaking live on the coverage of the game at Ashton Gate (16 January) tore into the Algerian for his “rotten” kick out.

He said: “It was right in front of the assistant referee, no more than eight feet away and the red is coming.

“What a rotten season he’s having.”

Dreadful

That red card must now be the final straw for the Algerian who underwent another stinking performance at Ashton Gate in what was a dour display from West Ham United.

Yes, the challenge on him from Williams wasn’t right but to kick out like that just certainly shows the lack of maturity and professionalism from a player who is well on his last legs at the London Stadium.

Benrahma has been strongly linked with a move to France and given this fresh performance when David Moyes needed him in the absence of Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta, it won’t be a surprise to see Moyes push the Hammers board and Tim Steidten to accept any bids form him in yet another shocker.

When West Ham United made Benrahma their third-most expensive player in 2021, signing from Brentford in a big-money deal up to £30m, many fans thought the Algerian would go on to become the star player they needed after losing the qualities of Dimitri Payet.

It just hasn’t happened for him and his desperate incident against The Robins must now be the final straw in what’s been a disappointing career in East London. Dreadful.
